Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a stronger focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation. He said India must accelerate efforts to connect its education system with the needs of the real-world economy.
Speaking at a post-budget webinar, the prime minister emphasised the importance of preparing students for future industries. He noted that India is steadily moving towards an innovation-driven economy.
Modi said the country must adapt its education system to match the demands of modern technology and industry.
Linking Education With Industry
The prime minister highlighted the need to align academic learning with practical economic requirements. According to him, students should gain knowledge that directly supports employment and innovation.
“We will have to accelerate the process of linking our education system to the real world economy even further,” Modi said during the event.
He added that educational institutions must increase their focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence, automation, the digital economy, and design-driven manufacturing.
These fields, he said, will play an important role in shaping India’s economic growth in the coming years.
Push Towards an Innovation-Driven Economy
Modi noted that India is gradually shifting towards a more innovation-focused economic model. Technologies such as AI and automation are expected to create new opportunities across industries.
By encouraging learning in these areas, the government aims to prepare young professionals for emerging job markets.
The prime minister also said that design-led manufacturing and digital skills will become increasingly important as industries adopt advanced technologies.
Focus on Health Infrastructure
Alongside education and technology, Modi also spoke about improvements in the country’s healthcare system.
He said India is working towards a vision of preventive and holistic healthcare. Over the past few years, health infrastructure has expanded significantly.
Medical colleges have opened in hundreds of districts across the country. Government initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat have helped extend healthcare access to rural areas.
Modi also highlighted the growing global interest in India’s traditional wellness practices. He said yoga and Ayurveda are gaining popularity around the world.
The prime minister concluded by stressing that strengthening education, technology, and healthcare will play a crucial role in India’s long-term development.
