Frontier tech venture capital firm Bluehill.VC has announced the final close of its maiden fund at ₹400 crore, including the exercise of a ₹50 crore greenshoe option. The fund has secured backing from institutional investors, including SIDBI and the Governments of Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, as well as leading family offices, entrepreneurs, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs) from India and the Middle East.

The fund will invest in IP-led startups from Seed to Series A, with a focus on frontier technologies spanning defence, space, semiconductors, energy, advanced materials, manufacturing, robotics, water, EVs, and industrial technologies. Bluehill.VC plans to build a concentrated portfolio of 15 to 16 companies, with an average first institutional cheque of $1 million to $2 million.

The firm has already deployed more than ₹100 crore across seven portfolio companies and plans to invest another ₹80 crore over the next six months.

Fund Draws Strong Institutional And HNI Backing

According to Bluehill.VC, the fund attracted interest from a wider pool of institutional and HNI investors than the firm could accommodate within its targeted closing timeline. The firm said it expects to engage the investors it could not include in the maiden fund as part of its next fund, which it has planned for 2027.

The successful fundraise comes amid growing investor interest in India’s frontier technology ecosystem, as geopolitical priorities, industrial policies, and advances in science and engineering reshape global innovation.

Manu Iyer, Managing Partner and co-founder of Bluehill.VC said the firm believes the next wave of enduring value will come from companies solving complex engineering and scientific problems.

He said India has the talent, policy momentum, and entrepreneurial ambition to build globally competitive businesses across sectors such as defence, semiconductors, space, energy, and advanced manufacturing.

Bluehill.VC Targets 15 To 16 Frontier Tech Startups

Bluehill.VC’s investment strategy focuses on startups developing proprietary technologies and building businesses with strategic relevance and global commercial potential. The firm invests from Seed to Series A and follows an invest-and-build approach, working closely with founders beyond providing capital.

Its investment focus includes Energy, EVs, Nuclear, Semiconductors, Advanced Materials, Defence, Space, Water, Manufacturing, Robotics, Industrial Technologies, and IoT.

Sridhar Parthasarathy, Managing Partner and co-founder, Bluehill.VC said frontier tech companies require a different investment approach because they typically take longer to develop and require deeper technical expertise.

He added that the firm is looking beyond conventional startup hubs to identify founders emerging from research laboratories, manufacturing clusters, defence programmes, and universities across India.

Existing Portfolio Includes Space, Defence And Semiconductor Startups

Bluehill.VC has already built a portfolio reflecting its frontier tech investment thesis. Its investments include EtherealX, which is developing reusable launch systems for space transportation, and Zebu Intelligent Systems, a counter-drone technology company that is working with the Indian Armed Forces after winning three iDEX challenges.

The portfolio also includes Helex, which is developing therapeutics for genetic kidney diseases; Sophrosyne Technologies, a fabless semiconductor startup focused on biosensing SoCs for wearable and digital health applications; and optoML, which is developing a FinFET-based Analog AI System-on-Chip platform with integrated optical interconnects.

Having earmarked ₹80 crore for deployment over the next six months, Bluehill.VC plans to continue expanding its portfolio of startups working on proprietary technologies with applications across strategic and industrial sectors.

Bluehill.VC, founded in 2024 and headquartered in Chennai, focuses on foundational technologies across engineering and science. The firm aims to help Indian startups develop globally competitive businesses through its long-term capital and operationally engaged investment approach.
