JiviAI, the artificial intelligence-driven healthcare startup founded by former BharatPe Chief Product Officer Ankur Jain, has shut down its operations, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

The closure comes less than two years after the company entered the competitive generative AI healthcare market. JiviAI focused on building proprietary AI models to provide medical assistance and other healthcare services.

The startup had also secured an undisclosed funding round in late 2024.

People aware of the development said the company struggled with rising infrastructure expenses, difficulties in raising fresh capital, and unsuccessful acquisition talks, all of which ultimately led to the shutdown.

“Developing and operating proprietary AI models became increasingly expensive. Competing against companies such as OpenAI and Google made it extremely challenging to build a sustainable business model,” a person familiar with the matter said, requesting anonymity.

Another source said that although investors had initially expressed interest in supporting the company, they did not participate in JiviAI’s planned funding round, placing additional strain on its financial position.

“The company also explored several acquisition opportunities, but none of the discussions resulted in a deal. After those efforts failed, there were very few strategic alternatives left,” the source added.

According to sources, JiviAI has informed employees about the decision to shut down and asked them to leave as the company completes its wind-down process.

Ankur Jain May Return to BharatPe as He Evaluates Next Career Move

Meanwhile, industry sources said Ankur Jain is evaluating his next career move. Some industry observers have speculated that Jain could return to the fintech company, following the recent exit of BharatPe’s Group Chief Product Officer and Chief Marketing Officer, Rohan Khara

Sources added that discussions regarding Jain’s possible return to BharatPe are currently underway. However, the appointment has not yet been finalised.

Inc42 reached out to Ankur Jain and BharatPe for comment. Neither had responded by the time this report was published. This story will be updated if and when they respond.

JiviAI’s closure adds to a growing list of startups founded by former BharatPe executives that have shut down over the past year.

In December 2025, GenWise, a senior citizen engagement platform established by former BharatPe executives Nehul Malhotra, Geetanshu Singla, and Rajat Jain, suspended operations and laid off most of its workforce. Earlier, in April 2025, OneBharat.AI, a financial risk management startup founded by former BharatPe employees, also ceased operations.
