Amaravati : In a landmark development for India’s deep-tech education ecosystem, the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish India’s first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) University campus in Amaravati.

The MoU was formalized during the AI Impact Summit in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, NIELIT Director General M. M. Tripathi, and Mission Director, APSQM – Amaravati Quantum Valley, Sridhar CV.

This strategic collaboration aims to position Amaravati as a national hub for advanced research and education in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence, reinforcing India’s global ambitions in frontier technologies.

India’s First Dedicated Quantum & AI University Campus

The proposed campus in Amaravati will function under NIELIT’s Deemed-to-be University framework, making it the first institution in India exclusively dedicated to Quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence.

With 12 approved campuses nationwide, NIELIT has been at the forefront of advancing education, skilling, research, and capacity building in emerging technologies. The Amaravati campus marks a significant expansion focused entirely on deep-tech domains such as:

    • Quantum Computing and Quantum Algorithms
    • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
    • Quantum Communication and Cybersecurity
    • Quantum Hardware and Systems Engineering
    • High-Performance Computing
    • AI–Quantum Convergence Research

This initiative aligns with India’s broader push to build sovereign capabilities in advanced technologies and reduce reliance on global supply chains in critical tech sectors.

Amaravati Quantum Valley: A National Deep-Tech Vision

The new Quantum & AI campus will support the proposed Andhra Quantum Mission and contribute to the state’s larger vision of building Amaravati Quantum Valley as a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

The university campus is expected to feature:

    • Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD programs
    • Advanced research laboratories
    • Industry-linked innovation partnerships
    • Advanced Centres of Excellence (CoEs)
    • Deep-tech incubation and startup support
    • Global academic collaborations and R&D alliances

By integrating research, academia, and industry, the Amaravati campus will nurture next-generation scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs in quantum computing, AI innovation, and high-performance computing.

Leadership Insights on the Quantum & AI University

Speaking at the summit, Dr. M. M. Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, stated that the Amaravati Quantum & AI campus would serve as a national center of excellence for cutting-edge research, education, and innovation in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence.

Sridhar CV, Mission Director, APSQM – Amaravati Quantum Valley, emphasized that the initiative will anchor India’s next wave of deep-tech talent by converging quantum science, AI research, and industry-aligned skilling to create a globally competitive ecosystem.

Strengthening Andhra Pradesh as a Technology Hub

With this development, Andhra Pradesh further strengthens its position as an emerging hub for advanced and frontier technologies. The collaboration reinforces NIELIT’s mandate to drive capacity building, innovation, and research excellence in critical technology domains.

The Amaravati Quantum & AI campus is expected to play a pivotal role in:

    • Advancing India’s leadership in quantum research
    • Accelerating AI-driven innovation
    • Expanding high-performance computing capabilities
    • Building globally skilled deep-tech talent

As India accelerates its focus on emerging technologies, the establishment of a dedicated Quantum & AI university campus in Amaravati marks a significant step toward securing the nation’s competitive edge in the global technology landscape.
