India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem has expanded rapidly over the past few years, supported by government incentives, rising fuel costs, and growing consumer interest in sustainable transportation. While established automakers continue to launch electric models, startups have emerged as key drivers of innovation across electric scooters, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, battery technology, and charging infrastructure.

Here are ten EV startups making a significant impact in India’s mobility sector.

    1. Ather Energy

Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has become one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers. The company is known for its premium electric scooters, including the Ather 450 series and Rizta, along with its fast-charging network, Ather Grid. It continues to expand its retail presence across India while investing in software-driven mobility solutions.

    2. Ola Electric

Ola Electric has grown into one of India’s largest EV manufacturers, offering a wide range of electric scooters under the S1 lineup. The company has also entered the electric motorcycle segment and continues to expand manufacturing through its Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. Ola Electric aims to build an integrated EV ecosystem covering vehicles, batteries, and charging solutions.

    3. Ultraviolette Automotive

Bengaluru-based Ultraviolette Automotive focuses on high-performance electric motorcycles. Its flagship F77 has positioned the company in the premium EV segment, combining long-range capability with advanced connected technology. The startup continues expanding into international markets while developing new performance-focused products.

    4. River

River has attracted attention with its practical electric scooter, Indie, designed for both personal and commercial use. The startup focuses on utility, storage capacity, and everyday usability, making it a distinctive player in India’s growing electric scooter market.

    5. Euler Motors

Euler Motors specializes in electric commercial vehicles designed for logistics and last-mile delivery. Its electric three-wheelers serve businesses involved in e-commerce, food delivery, and urban transportation. The company continues expanding its charging infrastructure and fleet partnerships.

    6. PMV Electric

Mumbai-based PMV Electric manufactures compact urban electric cars designed for city commuting. Its flagship EaS-E targets consumers looking for affordable, compact, and efficient personal mobility solutions in congested urban environments.

    7. Matter

Ahmedabad-based Matter has differentiated itself by introducing an electric motorcycle featuring a liquid-cooled battery and a manual gearbox. The company focuses on combining traditional riding dynamics with electric powertrain technology.

    8. Exponent Energy

Rather than manufacturing vehicles, Exponent Energy develops rapid-charging battery technology and charging infrastructure. The startup works with commercial fleet operators to reduce charging times and improve EV fleet efficiency.

    9. Battery Smart

Battery Smart has built one of India’s largest battery-swapping networks for electric two- and three-wheelers. Its battery-as-a-service model helps fleet operators minimize downtime while reducing the upfront cost of electric vehicles.

    10. BluSmart Mobility

BluSmart Mobility operates an all-electric ride-hailing platform focused on zero-emission urban transportation. The company combines EV fleet operations with charging infrastructure to offer sustainable mobility services across major Indian cities.

    Driving India’s EV Future

India’s EV startup ecosystem extends well beyond vehicle manufacturing. Companies are developing charging infrastructure, battery-swapping networks, energy storage technologies, fleet solutions, and software platforms that support the country’s transition toward cleaner transportation.

As government policies continue to encourage electric mobility and consumers increasingly adopt EVs, these startups are expected to play a central role in shaping the next phase of India’s automotive industry. Their continued innovation across vehicles, batteries, charging, and mobility services positions them among the most influential companies in the country’s sustainable transportation landscape.
