Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma is set to see a significant stake sale in the fintech company as his Netherlands-based investment entity, Resilient Asset Management B.V., plans to sell up to 4.98% of Paytm’s parent, One 97 Communications, through a block trade.
The proposed sale could be worth around ₹5,040 crore based on Paytm’s closing price of ₹1,580.20, according to Reuters. The block trade has reportedly set a floor price of ₹1,535.10 per share, putting the potential transaction value at around ₹4,895 crore.
The development puts Paytm’s ownership structure back in focus at a time when the fintech company has been working to strengthen its financial performance and expand its business.
Paytm Stake Sale Comes at a Discount
The proposed block trade will carry a 2.9% discount to Paytm’s Monday closing price. Paytm shares ended Monday’s session 1.4% lower at ₹1,580.20.
Resilient Asset Management acquired around 10.20% of Paytm from Antfin (Netherlands) Holding B.V. in 2023 through optionally convertible debentures rather than a cash transaction.
The arrangement gave Resilient ownership and voting rights attached to the shares, while Antfin retained the economic value of the holding. As a result, Antfin will retain the economic proceeds from the proposed block trade, Paytm said.
The proposed transaction will also not change Vijay Shekhar Sharma’s direct shareholding in Paytm. He held a direct 9.03% stake as of the end of June 2026, according to stock exchange data.

Why the Paytm Stake Sale Matters Now
The stake sale comes as Paytm continues its recovery and focuses on improving profitability after a challenging period for the fintech sector.
The proposed transaction itself does not indicate a change in Sharma’s direct ownership of Paytm, but the size of the block trade makes it an important development for investors tracking the company’s shareholder structure.
With up to 4.98% of Paytm potentially changing hands, the transaction could also attract significant institutional investor interest, particularly given the discount to the prevailing market price.
Paytm’s shares have remained a closely watched stock as the company rebuilds its payments and financial services operations. The latest stake-sale announcement adds another major development to the fintech firm’s evolving market story.

What Happens Next for Paytm
The proposed block trade will determine how much of the available stake investors ultimately absorb at the announced floor price. The transaction will also give the market a fresh indication of institutional demand for Paytm shares at a discount to the prevailing price.
For Paytm, the key focus remains on business execution, profitability, and maintaining momentum across its core financial services and payments businesses.
For investors, the immediate attention will remain on the block deal, Paytm’s share-price reaction, and whether the transaction changes market sentiment around the company’s long-term growth prospects.
