India Habitat Centre (IHC) commemorated the 77th Republic Day of India with a special celebration at its premises, bringing together employees, students, alumni, and members of the Habitat community for a morning filled with patriotism, cultural expression, and reflection on constitutional values.
The celebrations began with a community breakfast followed by the unfurling of the National Flag. The programme included the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Suresh, Director, India Habitat Centre. The event was graced by Shri Vijay Goel, Former Union Minister and Vice Chairperson, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, who attended as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Vijay Goel highlighted the importance of Republic Day, stating that it serves as a reminder of the strength of India’s Constitution and the unity of the nation. He appreciated India Habitat Centre’s efforts in bringing people together to celebrate shared democratic values with enthusiasm and collective pride.
Prof. (Dr.) K. G. Suresh, in his address, emphasised that the spirit of the Republic extends beyond ceremonial observances. He noted that at IHC, civic values are nurtured through everyday practices of community engagement, learning, and cultural exchange. He also highlighted how the celebration reflected the institution’s ethos, with employees, students, and members coming together to honour the Constitution, celebrate creativity, and recognise the achievements of Habitat Learning Centre (HLC) alumni.
A major highlight of the event was the release of the IHC Quarterly Newsletter, followed by a special screening showcasing the achievements of former HLC students. Alumni were felicitated for their accomplishments, underscoring IHC’s commitment to education and lifelong learning. The programme also featured a screening of the film “Samvidhan Meri Nazar Mein”, reinforcing the enduring relevance of the Constitution and the values that define India as a Republic.
The audience actively participated in the reading of the Preamble and the Constitution Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. Cultural performances added vibrancy to the celebration, including “Cholkettu,” a Mohiniyattam dance performance, and a patriotic group dance in the Kabila dance form presented by HLC students.
The event concluded with prize distribution for quiz winners, a formal vote of thanks, and the singing of the National Anthem, marking a fitting end to the Republic Day celebrations.
