Noida-based astrology and spiritual tech platform Astrotalk has joined India’s unicorn club at a $1 billion valuation after completing an ESOP buyback programme for more than 100 employees, marking another milestone for the country’s startup ecosystem. The company said the initiative will allow eligible employees to unlock liquidity while continuing to participate in Astrotalk’s future growth.
The unicorn milestone comes as Astrotalk continues to expand beyond its core astrology consultation business into spiritual commerce and related categories. The company currently has a revenue run rate of more than ₹2,500 crore and reported ₹1,176 crore in revenue along with ₹285 crore in profit before tax (PBT) in FY25.
ESOP Buyback Funded Through Business Profits
Unlike a conventional funding round, Astrotalk’s latest valuation milestone has been achieved through an employee stock option buyback funded by profits generated by the business.
The move allows employees to monetise a portion of their ownership without completely exiting their association with the company. For a startup that has focused heavily on profitability alongside expansion, the buyback also highlights Astrotalk’s ability to generate sufficient internal cash flows to create liquidity for its workforce.
Founded in 2017 by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain, Astrotalk has built its business around connecting users with astrology and spiritual services. Over the years, the company has broadened its offering and established itself across multiple segments within the spiritual technology and commerce ecosystem.
Astrotalk is backed by investors including Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners. The company has raised $34 million to date, with its most recent reported funding round being a $14 million raise in June 2024.

Astrotalk Expands Into Spiritual Commerce
A key part of Astrotalk’s growth strategy has been its push into commerce. Its e-commerce arm, Astrotalk Store, has reached a daily gross merchandise value (GMV) run rate of around ₹1 crore and processed 1.6 million orders during 2025, according to the company.
The startup has also launched a dedicated gemstone platform offering precious and semi-precious stones, lab certification, astrology consultations and a replacement policy. The initiative is aimed at bringing greater transparency and trust to a traditionally fragmented gemstone market.
Co-founder Anmol Jain said the company has spent the past year strengthening sourcing, merchandising and product launches. The dedicated gemstone platform is part of that broader effort to improve customer confidence while expanding the company’s presence in spiritual commerce.

Eighth Indian Unicorn Of 2026
Astrotalk’s entry into the unicorn club makes it the eighth Indian startup to achieve unicorn status in 2026, following Emergent, Sarvam AI, Square Yards, Skyroot, KreditBee, Neysa and Juspay.
The company now plans to continue investing in technology and talent while expanding its global footprint. Its latest milestone also reflects a broader shift in India’s startup ecosystem, where profitable businesses are increasingly using internal cash generation and employee liquidity programmes alongside conventional venture capital to support growth.
With its expansion into spiritual commerce, gemstones, and new markets, Astrotalk is positioning itself as more than an online astrology platform. Its $1 billion valuation marks a significant step in that transformation and adds another profitable consumer technology business to India’s growing unicorn landscape.
