On March 28, 2026, Desire Hall at Le Méridien New Delhi came alive with electrifying energy as it hosted the highly anticipated fourth edition of the Delhi Food Awards 2026 – the most ambitious celebration since its inception in 2018.

Beginning at 4:30 PM, the event welcomed a record-breaking audience of over 300 guests, exceeding venue capacity and underlining the growing cultural significance of what has become one of the city’s most respected culinary honours.

This year’s edition reinforced the platform’s core ethos — “Community First, Always” — by bringing together an extraordinary cross-section of India’s culinary ecosystem, from celebrated chefs and restaurateurs to street food legends, food historians, journalists, home chefs, and digital content creators.

The evening emerged as a vibrant tribute to Delhi’s food culture, culinary heritage, and diverse communities, making it one of the most talked-about food events in the capital.

A Celebration of Delhi’s Rich Culinary Diversity

The Delhi Food Awards 2026 stood out for its inclusivity and deep cultural representation.

The event honoured icons spanning the city’s rich social and culinary fabric — from the Sikh legacy of Sahni Fish Corner and the Qureshi family’s Mughlai heritage to the Hindu traditions of Brijwasi, the Buddhist culinary roots of the Bhutia family, and the timeless Sindhi flavours of Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai.

This pluralism was visible not just among the award recipients but across the audience as well.

National and international food historians, critics, culinary journalists, and home chefs stood shoulder-to-shoulder, reflecting the awards’ mission of celebrating food as a shared cultural language.

The event once again established itself as a platform that goes beyond restaurants and trends, recognising the people, families, and traditions that shape Delhi’s food identity.

Emotional Storytelling and Tribute to Vinod Dua

This year’s edition elevated storytelling through specially produced cinematic short films, bringing emotional depth and historical context to the awards ceremony.

The emotional high point of the evening came with a deeply moving tribute to Vinod Dua, which received a standing ovation from the audience.

The tribute was followed by intimate film portraits celebrating each recipient of the Vinod Dua Lifetime Achievement Award, adding a deeply personal dimension to the ceremony.

The visual storytelling format enhanced audience engagement and highlighted the legacy of culinary voices, critics, and food chroniclers who have shaped India’s food discourse.

Thought Leadership: Conversations on the Future of Food

The Delhi Food Awards 2026 also positioned itself as an intellectual platform for conversations around the future of India’s food industry.

Anubhav Sapra, Founder of Delhi Food Walks, opened the ceremony by reflecting on how the initiative has evolved from a street-food-focused platform into a comprehensive celebration of Delhi’s gastronomic landscape.

    Panel 1: Food and tourism

Moderated by Sourish Bhattacharyya, the discussion focused on how culinary experiences are increasingly shaping travel and destination branding.

    The panel featured:

    • Chef Davinder Kumar
    • Karan Marwah
    • Kartikeya Shankar

The conversation explored how food tourism continues to play a key role in Delhi’s cultural and economic narrative.

Panel 2: The evolving foodscape of Delhi

Led by Dr. Neha Vermani, this discussion explored the changing nature of Delhi’s culinary scene, balancing heritage with modern experimentation.

    Panelists included:

    • Chef Manish Mehrotra
    • G. Sri Ramya
    • Dr. Charmaine O’Brien

    Panel 3: Responsible content creation

With food content creation emerging as a major digital category, this session examined ethics, storytelling, and audience responsibility.

Moderated by Triya Gulati, the panel featured:

    • Priyanka Kapoor
    • Karan Malik
    • Gitanshu Jetly

Cultural Storytelling at the Heart of the Evening

Cultural performance remained central to the event’s identity. A compelling Dastangoi performance by Nadeem Shah Suhrawardy captivated the audience, blending oral storytelling with Delhi’s culinary memory.

This was followed by a special narration titled “Zabaan aur Zaiqa” by Saba, known online as @thewordmuse_, which explored the intimate relationship between language and taste.

These performances reinforced the idea that food is deeply tied to memory, identity, and storytelling.

    Gala Dinner and Culinary Showcase

The evening concluded with a gala dinner featuring award-winning dishes from some of Delhi’s most iconic food establishments.

A special showcase by Noori Masale celebrated nearly a century of Mughlai spice craftsmanship, adding depth to the culinary experience.

The event also featured award-winning dishes from:

    • Yash Ji Snacks Point
    • Dosa Coffee
    • Zahra Restaurant & Cafe
    • Hyd. Irani Cafe
