Reliance Jio has launched the JioTag 2, a Bluetooth tracker. The company has priced it at ₹1,249, marking its entry into cross-platform item-tracking devices in India. Jio announced the device this week. It positions the tracker as the successor to the original JioTag it launched in 2023. Amazon India currently sells it exclusively.

Unlike its predecessors, the JioTag 2 supports both Google’s Find Hub on Android and Apple’s Find My on iOS. It does so from a single device. Jio had previously sold two separate single-platform trackers. These were the Android-only JioTag Go and the iOS-only JioTag Air. As a result, buyers had to commit to one ecosystem or the other. The new tracker removes that restriction.

    Key Takeaways

    • Reliance Jio has launched the JioTag 2 Bluetooth tracker in India at ₹1,249.
    • It becomes the first Jio tracker to support both Apple’s Find My network on iOS and Google’s Find Hub on Android from a single device.
    • The tracker packs a 120dB built-in speaker. It also carries an IP64 dust and water resistance rating. In addition, it delivers up to two years of total battery life with the included spare battery.
    • Jio offers the JioTag 2 in black, red, and green colour options.
    • Jio has priced the device at Rs 1,249. Moreover, a bank discount brings the effective price down to Rs 1,199.
    • Amazon India currently sells the tracker exclusively. It has not yet appeared on Jio’s own website or JioMart.

JioTag 2 Brings Cross-Platform Support to Indian Market

The JioTag 2 introduces cross-platform compatibility as its biggest change. It supports both Apple’s Find My network and Google’s Find Hub straight out of the box. As a result, users can manage the tracker entirely through their phone’s built-in location tools. They don’t need a separate app.

This cross-platform approach pits the JioTag 2 directly against trackers like Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag. At the same time, it undercuts them significantly on price. Consequently, this positions the JioTag 2 as a budget-friendly alternative for Indian consumers in a market where imported trackers typically carry a premium price tag.

Pricing and Availability of the JioTag 2

Jio has priced the JioTag 2 at Rs 1,249 in India. Additionally, buyers can avail themselves of an instant bank discount of up to Rs 50. This brings the effective price down to Rs 1,199. Amazon India currently sells the tracker. There, it lists the device as the ‘JioTag (2nd Generation)’. However, the retail packaging itself labels it JioTag 2.

As of now, Jio’s own website continues to list only the JioTag Go and JioTag Air. Meanwhile, the JioTag 2 does not yet appear on JioMart. This makes Amazon the only place to buy it at launch.

Design, Battery Life and Tracking Technology

The JioTag 2 functions as a Bluetooth Low Energy tracker with a keyring loop. Users can attach it to items such as keys, wallets, bags, or luggage. It skips the SIM card and subscription requirement altogether. Instead, it relies on crowd-sourced location networks. This means nearby phones belonging to other users help relay the tracker’s approximate location when it moves out of direct Bluetooth range.

The tracker houses a 120dB built-in speaker. Users can activate it through the paired app to help locate nearby items. It also includes Lost Mode. This feature allows other devices on the supported networks to help identify the tracker’s location.

On durability, the JioTag 2 carries an IP64 dust and water resistance rating. It runs on a replaceable battery that Jio claims lasts one year. Jio also includes an extra battery in the box. As a result, users get up to two years of total battery life before they need to purchase a replacement.

    Colour Options and Additional Details

Jio offers the tracker in black, red, and green colour options. Consumers can currently purchase it through Amazon India. So far, the company has not disclosed separate warranty terms for the JioTag 2 beyond its Amazon India listing.

Reliance Industries wholly owns Reliance Jio, which operates out of Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. It provides 4G LTE wireless services across all 22 telecom circles in India. Overall, the JioTag 2 launch adds to Jio’s growing portfolio of consumer hardware devices beyond its core telecom offerings.

    Conclusion

With the JioTag 2, Reliance Jio addresses the ecosystem limitation that affected its earlier single-platform trackers. It now offers a device compatible with both Android and iOS. Notably, it does so at a price point below many competing products. As the Bluetooth tracker segment grows in India, the JioTag 2’s cross-platform support and affordable pricing could influence how domestic buyers choose between tracking devices in the months ahead.
