    Wardha, Maharashtra | January 24, 2026

To mark the 111th birth anniversary of Shri Kamalnayan Bajaj, the Bajaj family, under the leadership of Shri Shishir Bajaj, released an AI-powered tribute film honouring the life and values of the visionary who laid the entrepreneurial and ethical foundations of the Bajaj Group.

The digitally restored film presents a compelling narrative of Kamalnayan Bajaj’s journey—from a young freedom movement participant to a pioneering industrialist who believed that business must function as an instrument of national service rather than mere commercial gain.

Early Life Rooted in Gandhian Ideals

Born on January 23, 1915, Kamalnayan Bajaj was the son of renowned freedom fighter and philanthropist Jamnalal Bajaj and Jankidevi Bajaj. His worldview was shaped by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave, instilling in him a lifelong commitment to truth, self-reliance and social responsibility.

At the age of just 15, he joined the historic Dandi March, becoming one of the youngest participants in the freedom struggle. His early involvement in the Swadeshi and Khadi movements reflected a belief that economic independence was inseparable from political freedom.

Building Industries for a Self-Reliant India

The AI tribute film documents how Kamalnayan Bajaj focused on creating enterprises that reduced India’s reliance on foreign imports, long before the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat entered public vocabulary.

Archival moments highlight his hands-on involvement with the Gola Sugar Mill in Uttar Pradesh, established to strengthen domestic sugar production. The visuals also feature his younger son Shishir Bajaj, who later expanded Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar into one of India’s largest integrated sugar companies.

    Strategic Global Collaborations

Despite India’s fragile post-Independence economy, Kamalnayan Bajaj recognised the importance of global cooperation aligned with national priorities. The film showcases landmark collaborations with Philips in the electrical segment and Piaggio (Vespa) in the automobile sector—partnerships that shaped the long-term growth of Bajaj Electricals and the Bajaj auto business.

These initiatives cemented his reputation as the principal architect of the Bajaj Group’s industrial evolution.

Contribution to Public Life and Governance

In addition to his business leadership, Kamalnayan Bajaj served as a Member of Parliament from Wardha, Maharashtra, for over a decade. During this period, he focused on rural upliftment, education, healthcare access and institutional development.

He also contributed discreetly to India’s political integration by assisting Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during negotiations with princely states—an effort later documented by civil servant V.P. Menon.

Bajajwadi: A Centre of National Engagement

The film revisits Bajajwadi in Wardha, a space that emerged as a hub for national dialogue and service. The residence welcomed numerous leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sarojini Naidu and Morarji Desai, along with international dignitaries.

Due to its frequent role in hosting national leaders visiting Sevagram Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi referred to Bajajwadi as a “national guest house.”

Shishir Bajaj Reflects on His Father’s Vision

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shishir Bajaj, Chairman of the Bajaj Foundation, said:

“My father believed that enterprise must endure only if it serves society. For him, industry, governance and social institutions were inseparable forces in building a strong nation. This tribute is our effort to pass on that belief to future generations.”

    Legacy Continued Across Generations

The film also offers a glimpse into Kamalnayan Bajaj’s personal life, including his marriage to Savitri Devi, whose support played a pivotal role in his public and professional journey. His sons Rahul Bajaj and Shishir Bajaj carried forward his vision, scaling the businesses he founded.

Today, the legacy continues through Shishir Bajaj, Kushagra Bajaj—currently Chairman of their business vertical—and Apoorv Bajaj, who remain committed to blending industrial growth with social development initiatives across Wardha, Sikar and Lalitpur.

    Preserving History Through Artificial Intelligence

The tribute film leverages artificial intelligence technology to restore and animate rare archival photographs, offering younger audiences an immersive way to engage with India’s industrial and freedom movement history.

As the nation remembers Shri Kamalnayan Bajaj on his 111th birth anniversary, the Bajaj family’s initiative reinforces a lasting message—that values-driven entrepreneurship remains central to India’s progress.
