MIC Electronics is intensifying its focus on the defence sector, positioning itself to support India’s push towards a self-reliant defence ecosystem. The Hyderabad-based company is adopting an integrated approach that combines electronics manufacturing, rapid prototyping, indigenisation, and emerging semiconductor capabilities to address the country’s continued dependence on imported electronic subsystems.

As India accelerates defence indigenisation, industry attention is increasingly shifting to electronics, a critical layer underpinning modern defence platforms. MIC Electronics aims to play a key role in bridging this gap by developing and manufacturing high-reliability electronic components for strategic and mission-critical applications.

Strengthening Core Manufacturing and Prototyping Capabilities

With over three decades of experience, MIC Electronics brings established credentials, including RDSO approval and ISO certifications, along with a track record across complex sectors such as railways and defence adjacent supply chains. The company’s Electronics Manufacturing Services capability supports the production of electronic sub-assemblies used in communication systems, control units, and other defence applications.

Complementing this is its rapid prototyping infrastructure, which enables faster conversion of design concepts into functional hardware. This capability is increasingly important for defence innovation programmes that require speed, precision, and adaptability in product development.

    Driving Indigenisation and Future Technologies

MIC Electronics is also advancing its role in localisation through reverse engineering, technology transfer, and structured indigenisation initiatives. These efforts align with the Government of India’s Positive Indigenisation List and broader Make in India objectives, aimed at reducing reliance on imports.

Looking ahead, the company is expanding into semiconductor initiatives to build long-term capability in chip design and the wider electronics value chain. This forward and backward integration strategy is expected to strengthen its position in the evolving defence manufacturing landscape.

    Strategic Alignment with National Priorities

According to CEO Rakshit Mathur, electronics remains a critical area where import dependence persists despite progress in defence manufacturing. He emphasised the company’s focus on building a robust technology and manufacturing backbone to support this transition.

Beyond its core offerings, MIC Electronics is also engaged in solutions related to energy storage, fuel management, and circular electronics, supporting defence infrastructure and lifecycle management. The company recently participated in the Atma Nirbharta Karmayogi Leadership Programme at the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad, reflecting its commitment to aligning with national priorities.

As India’s defence ecosystem continues to evolve, MIC Electronics is positioning itself as a key domestic player in building the electronics backbone for next-generation defence systems.
