Marine robotics startup Rekise Marine has raised $9.7 million in a seed funding round co-led by Accel and NKSquared, with participation from Sameer Brij Verma and Sandeep Singhal, Industrial47 and Singularity AMC, alongside the company’s founders and several family offices. The fresh capital will support the development of autonomous maritime technologies and strengthen India’s indigenous marine robotics ecosystem.

The Bengaluru-based company had previously raised $4.72 million from Singularity AMC and other investors. With the latest funding, Rekise plans to accelerate product development, expand its engineering capabilities, and advance the deployment of autonomous vessels for defence and commercial applications.

    Funding to Accelerate Jalkapi Development

According to the company, the newly raised funds will be used to complete and conduct sea trials of Jalkapi, India’s first extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XL AUV) being developed under the Indian Navy’s iDEX ADITI programme. The capital will also help Rekise deepen its in-house autonomy software stack and significantly expand its engineering workforce across robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, embedded systems, platform integration, and naval architecture.

Founded in 2017 by Maitrai Maka and Shekhar, Rekise Marine develops autonomous ships and submarines, with a focus on designing, building, integrating, and operating advanced marine robotic systems. The company creates its autonomy software in-house and collaborates with leading Indian shipyards for vessel construction and deployment.

Building Autonomous Platforms for Defence and Commercial Use

Rekise’s portfolio includes both surface and underwater autonomous platforms. Among its flagship products is Jaldoot, an autonomous surface vessel already delivered to customers. The company has also developed Swadheen, an autonomous survey vessel that has completed fully autonomous open sea trials, and a man-portable autonomous underwater vehicle currently undergoing testing.

Its flagship underwater platform, Jalkapi, is designed to support naval, coast guard, and commercial maritime operations. Rekise said its software platform is capable of powering vessels ranging from compact portable vehicles to extra-large autonomous submarines, allowing capabilities to be deployed across multiple classes of vessels with minimal reconfiguration.

The startup works closely with premier shipyards, including Goa Shipyard Limited and GRSE Limited, to manufacture and integrate its platforms. As India continues to invest in maritime security and autonomous defence technologies, Rekise joins a growing group of marine technology startups such as Coratia Technologies, Planys, Eyerov, and Sagar Defence that are advancing innovation in the sector.
